I cannot begin to express how excited I am for the new little Australian film The Dressmaker. Well, I can actually, in two words: Kate Winslet. World’s greatest working actress has made her way down to merry old Oz to star in a quirky looking drama about a close-knit rural community, fashion and revenge. AND SHE HAS AN AUSTRALIAN ACCENT. It’s swoon-inducing.
It has to be said, Australian films tend to miss more than they hit, but The Dressmaker looks to be in an advantageous position even without Winslet. The rest of the cast is filled with great Australian actors and up-and-comers alike (Hugo Weaving, Sarah Snook, Liam Hemsworth and Judy Davis, the trailers look extremely promising giving us a glimpse of the wildly interesting story, characters, setting and themes and The Dressmaker appears to be an expertly assembled and executed film on all technical levels. It looks incredibly well-made.
