A quirky comedy with a touch of romance won the audience’s hearts and the People’s Choice Awards at the 10th Mudfest International Short Film Award at Bunnamagoo Winery on Saturday evening.
Man Of Action won the award from a field of Australian and international entries, including films from the United States, the United Kingdom, Finland and Croatia.
The Judges Choice Award went to UK production Off Season, a study of unrevealed evil set against a frozen wasteland,
“Off Season got high praise from the judges, but only muted response from the audience,” organiser Mike O’Malley said.
“The judges were looking at the entries from a technical standpoint, but the crowd is there to be entertained so the People’s Choice winner is often something that is romantic or funny, and last night’s winner was both.
“I suppose that is one of the good things about Mudfest, that it polarises audiences.”
The Fuji Film Award for Best Australian film went to Manny Gets Censored, in which a heartbroken young man discovers that his life has literally been censored.
Mudfest organisers sifted through around 700 entries to choose the finalists in this year’s awards.
Despite predictions of storms over the weekend, the rain stayed away during the screening.
