Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett will star with Hugo Weaving in Chekhov’s Uncle Vanya, and Oscar winner William Hurt will star in O’Neill’s Long Day’s Journey Into Night, in Sydney Theatre Company’s 2010 season, the Australian troupe announced.
Robyn Nevin will co-star with Hurt ("Kiss of the Spider Woman") in the Eugene O’Neill classic about a broken family whose patriarch is an aging actor, married to a drug addict.
Richard Roxburgh and John Bell will join STC co-artistic director Blanchett ("The Aviator") in Uncle Vanya, to be directed by STC co-artistic directior Andrew Upton (Blanchett’s husband).
Philip Seymour Hoffman will direct Sam Shepard’s True West featuring Wayne Blair.
As announced by Steppenwolf Theatre Company on Sept. 26, the Chicago and Broadway creative team of the award-winning August: Osage County will also appear in 2010.
Also on the STC season: the Broadway musical Spring Awakening (in a resident production directed by Geordie Brookman), Joanna Murray-Smith’s Honour, Tom Wright’s Optimism, Thornton Wilder’s Our Town, Tony McNamara’s The Grenade, Bryony Lavery’s Stockholm, Tom Wright’s adaptation of The Oresteia and Kafka’s The Trial adapted by Louise Fox.
