CATE Blanchett, Richard Roxburgh and Hugo Weaving have all been nominated for a Helen Hayes Award for their performances in Uncle Vanya.
The Sydney Theatre Company (STC) production has received five nominations at the 28th annual awards, which recognise artistic achievement on the stage in the Washington area.
They are among the most highly regarded cultural awards in the US.
Uncle Vanya by Anton Chekhov, which was adapted by Blanchett’s husband Andrew Upton, is up for Outstanding Non-resident Production.
Blanchett is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Non-Resident Production, Roxburgh has been named a nominee for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Non-Resident Production, while both Weaving and Hayley McElhinney are Outstanding Supporting Performer nominees in the Non-Resident category.
The STC production of Uncle Vanya was a critical triumph in Sydney in 2010 before its run at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, in August 2011.
The entire original cast, which includes Andrew Tighe and Jacki Weaver, will reprise their roles for the Lincoln Center Festival, New York, with performances from July 19 to 28 this year.
