A producer of a major film being shot in Broken Hill says council initiatives to attract film crews have worked.
Macdara Kelleher says assistance with scouting locations and access to production offices were central to choosing Broken Hill for the filmStrangerland, starring Nicole Kidman and Hugo Weaving.
Mr Kelleher says towns that show initiative in marketing themselves as a movie location make the decision process easier.
He says Strangerland will begin shooting in Broken Hill later this month.
“Council have some initiatives there, they helped with the initial scout because we looked at quite a few places, so that was really helpful that we had a sort of liaison there who helped as well,” he said.
“it was definitely a part of the decision. It always helps to have someone on the ground there that can show you around and it’s always easier.”
