Mystery Road is excellent and very communicative movie, at the same time universal and entirely local, and even seems and very personal. Parallels can be withdrawn from American films. This movie reveals a less familiar Australia, far from the cities and beaches. Reveals the dusty interior, but without +Mythologizing , the full range of +Poverty . And with misery and out of the way perfectly matched +Crime and +Racism . Ivan Sen is probably told this story from personal experience or even from the heart. His previous two films shot in +Australia also had a racial and social themes, Beneath The Clouds (2003) that combines a love story and Toomelah (2011) is pure social drama about people who engage in crime necessity, not a matter of choice. In addition, he made another and trashy SF co-production with the American Dreamland (2009), and several documentaries and short films.
Mystery Road is the +Pinnacle of his career and a movie that would not be ashamed any experienced directors with more money at their disposal. Despite a few drawbacks from me gets very warm recommendation.
