FIVE Dungog streets have been renamed after Australian stars for the Dungog Film Festival.

Festival director Alannah Zitserman announced Geoffrey Rush, Cate Blanchett, Hugo Weaving, Hugh Jackman and the late Heath Ledger will mark the shire’s roads from today.

Oscar winner Geoffrey Rush clinched the most votes overall to turn Brown Street into Geoffrey Rush Road, narrowly pipping Lord of the Rings’ Cate Blanchett.

For her close second, Ms Blanchett was rewarded with replacing Chapman Street with Cate Blanchett Boulevard.

Heath Ledger Lane will replace Hooke Street, while Lord Street will become Hugh Jackman Drive.

Dungog residents’ choice Hugo Weaving will claim the prestigious main Dowling Street as his own, with the stretch redubbed Hugo Weaving Way.

The public votes were allocated between 25 past and present actors. Actors who missed out included Rachel Griffiths, Peter Weir, Bryan Brown, Nicole Kidman, Toni Collette and Russell Crowe.
