LOTL Magazine July 2011
Help raise much needed funds for Japan's earthquake and tsunami orphans.
The Japanese earthquake and tsunami in March 2011 have had devastating effects. The scale of loss and disruption has been inconceivable; homes are destroyed, friends have disappeared, parents, siblings and other close family members are missing, presumed dead. Hope For Orphans Japan have banded together for a fundraising event at Tokonoma, Surry Hills, Sydney on Tuesday 26th July 2011 to help orphans in the affected area. Focusing on the Iwate prefecture, the event will raise funds for the Ichi no Seki Fuji no Sono (translation – “to the garden with the wisteria covered gate”) orphanage. 57 kids currently live in this orphanage. This is the most isolated orphanage in the area affected by the earthquake and tsunami, in the North Eastern part of Japan. The event and associated auction aims to raise $30,000 to help the 57 orphans living in this remote orphanage. The funds raised will go directly to pay for grief counselling, 2-weeks at a summer camp, music, art and dance therapy, computers including educational software, sports equipment and the coaches for training, toys and books. Confirmed attendees at the event include David Wenham, Richard Roxburgh, Hugo Weaving, George Gregan, Glenn Shorrock, Diesel, Billy Birmingham, Sam Niell & Bryan Brown. The event will include music performances from Diesel and Old Man River, Deborah Hutton as MC, Sam Neill and Bryan Brown on stage, plus live & silent auction, along with delicious food served by the skilled team at Tokonoma and beverages kindly donated by sponsors.
