CATE Blanchett and Hugo Weaving have both been recognised in the US for their roles in the Sydney Theatre Company's (STC) production of Uncle Vanya.
The Helen Hayes Awards recognise the artistic achievement of local and international productions in Washington, DC.
Blanchett was awarded the prize for Outstanding Lead Actress, Non-Resident Production while Weaving took home the gong for Outstanding Supporting Performer, Non-Resident Production.
The STC had been nominated for five awards for its production, which received rave reviews when it travelled to the Kennedy Centre in Washington DC in August last year.
Uncle Vanya missed out on winning the award for Outstanding Non-Resident Production to Arena Stage's version of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?
Sahr Ngaujah's performance in FELA! from the Shakespeare Theatre Company beat Richard Roxburgh's performance as Vanya in a leading role, and Weaving beat fellow Aussie Hayley McElhinney for the Supporting Actor prize.
The STC's original cast, which includes Andrew Tighe and Jacki Weaver, will be performing at the Lincoln Centre Festival, New York, from July 19 to 28.
