Hugo Weaving, whose beard is again massive and untamed, has returned to one of his favourite roles: publicly supporting local theatre and film events in Sydney.

Weaving was among the star-crossed lovers watching Bell Shakespeare's production of Romeo And Juliet at the Opera House on Thursday night.

He joined in the enthusiastic applause for the play, which carried on through three encores. (All credit to director John Bell and the cast for a great production.)

Weaving was then scheduled to walk on the red carpet at the opening of the Sydney Film Festival on Friday night, to watch Ten Canoes.

After the impressive box-office success of V For Vendetta, with Weaving starring opposite Natalie Portman, the actor is now considering a range of scripts, such is the demand for his services in Hollywood.

But, charmingly, he seems perfectly content taking a bit of time out in Sydney.
