Sometimes the arts world needs to pull out all stops to grab the
attention of corporate Australia. Last week this phenomenon cacomme in
the form of the dancer Tim Ohl in a suit and wearing a
single red glove hand-delivering invitations to a fund-raising
event for Kim Carpenter's children's theatre, Theatre of
Image. The invitations were delivered to select corporate heads and
celebrities with Ohl performing a snappy tap dance routine on top
of his slimline wooden briefcase.
While the performance went over a treat at Channel Seven - drawing more than 100 of the staff out of their offices to witness the impromptu show - Ohl received a less friendly reception at the offices of a leading bank (you know which bank), where his routine prompted security staff to rush out, interpreting the sound of the tap shoes as a security threat. The fund-raiser will be hosted by Hugo Weaving at The InterContinental on March 14.
