New Australian film Beneath Hill 60 is conducting a nation-wide search to see if anyone recognises a man in a photo. The film, which tells the story of a group of miners who conduct an underground operation on the Western Front during WWI, will focus on the men from one unit. The only Aboriginal man in the unit however has not yet been identified.

Producer Bill Leimbach said: "We are searching for the identity of the only Aboriginal miner among the 4850 miners from Australia who served as tunnellers who dug under the Western Front in WWI. One of the major characters in our film, Billy (Streaky) Bacon, is an Aboriginal tunneller and it would be invaluable to our writer to know the true story."

The producers have a photo of a group of miners which includes the Aboriginal man but do not have the man's name. They are asking for anyone with any information regarding the man or any other man in the photo to contact them via the website.

Beneath Hill 60 will be shot entirely on location in Townsville, Queensland. The film will be directed by actor turned director Jeremy Sims and many notable actors have signed on to the project including Hugo Weaving, Brendan Cowell, Gyton Grantley and John Hannah.

Leimbach is looking forward to working in the mining town of Townsville, the location where the main character Captain Oliver Woodward (played by Brendan Cowell) originated before he went to war. "This incredible part of Australia's history has never before been told on the big screen or on TV and is particularly resonant in the Townsville and North Queensland communities, as the film's characters were from these areas."

The filmmakers wish to represent the true story of the miners who worked at Hill 60 on the Western Front, who contributed significantly to breaking the three year stalemate between the German and the Allied Forces.

The script, written by David roach, is based on the writings of Captain Woodward, who won the Military Cross for his efforts during the war.
