There are very few things I find more interesting than watching the career of a multi-generational film talent jump start.
That is why hearing news about Jim Loach’s upcoming film, Oranges And Sunshine, is more than noteworthy.
According to The Playlist,
Loach, the son of legendary filmmaker Ken Loach, will be premiering the
film, his first feature piece, at the upcoming Rome International Film
Festival. This film marks his first foray into feature films, after
starting his career on television.
The
film has a killer cast to boot, including Hugo Weaving and Emily
Watson, the follows the tale "of the former Nottinghamshire social
worker [Margaret Humphreys, played by Emily Watson] who, in the 1980s,
discovered the scandal of 130,000 children in care deported to Australia
and other Commonwealth countries" It was penned by Rona Munro.
Personally,
while I won’t be able to see the film, it is definitely one I hope
finds U.S. distribution, because it sounds like a real winner. It won’t
hit theaters in the UK until 2011, so it may be a ways off from the
states, but at this point, it’s one I’m keeping the keenest of eye on.
If he’s half the filmmaker his father is, we may be seeing the start of a
legendary career.
Go see something good!
