As part of our Opening Night Gala, DFF will host Director Jim Loach’s English/Australian co-production Oranges and Sunshine.
This
film tells the story of Margaret Humphreys, an inspirational social
worker from Nottingham who uncovered one of the most significant social
scandals of recent times: the deportation of thousands of children from
the UK to Australia.
The film stars Emily Watson as Humphreys, with Hugo Weaving and David
Wenham rounding out this stellar cast. The film is produced by Camilla
Bray in the UK, but also by Australia’s own Oscar winner Emile Sherman
and his See-Saw Films partner Iain Canning, who brought us The King’s Speech.
