'Captain America: The First Avenger' -- a super hero film with good buzz -- will be hitting the big screen July 22 and, surprisingly, we have not been inundated with promos and clips. So if you're at all anxious about how Paramount and Marvel are going to handle the character, take a look at the two behind-the-scenes clips after the jump. It seems like the filmmakers are shooting for realism here, unlike the goofy stuff that inhabited that Green thing earlier this summer.

These two clips feature Chris Evans, Hayley Atwell, Richard Armitage, producer Stephen Broussard, costume designer Anna B. Sheppard and props master Barry Gibbs discussing the character of Steve Rogers/Captain America, and the "problems" inherent in creating a period piece with plenty of gunfire and explosive action.

Here's the official synopsis of Captain America's genesis:

Born during the Great Depression, Steve Rogers grew up a frail youth in a poor family. Horrified by the newsreel footage of the Nazis in Europe, Rogers was inspired to enlist in the army. However, because of his frailty and sickness, he was rejected. Overhearing the boy's earnest plea, General Chester Phillips offered Rogers the opportunity to take part in a special experiment... Operation: Rebirth. After weeks of tests, Rogers was at last administered the Super-Soldier Serum and bombarded by "vita-rays." Steve Rogers emerged from the treatment with a body as perfect as a body can be and still be human. Rogers was then put through an intensive physical and tactical training program. Three months later, he was given his first assignment as Captain America. Armed with his indestructible shield and battle savvy, Captain America has continued his war against evil both as a sentinel of liberty and as leader of the Avengers.

The film, directed by Joe Johnston, stars Evans, Hugo Weaving, Tommy Lee Jones, Natalie Dormer, Toby Jones, Stanley Tucci, Sebastian Stan, Dominic Cooper, Atwell and Armitage.

Tip o' the hat to Collider and EPIX.
