STV Exclusive: Tom Hanks and Halle Berry movie Cloud Atlas could be the latest big-budget film to be shot in Glasgow, STV can reveal. The highly anticipated new Tom Hanks and Halle Berry movie Cloud Atlas, which is being directed by the brothers behind The Matrix trilogy, could be the latest big-budget film to be shot in Glasgow, STV can reveal. It would be another coup for Glasgow as a filming location, with hugely anticipated The Dark Knight Rises shooting scenes in the city recently. Brad Pitt-starring World War Z is also setting up in George Square next month, and is in the process of recruiting hundreds of extras to become zombies. According to our sources the team behind Cloud Atlas have been location-scouting on the city’s St Vincent Street, apparently for a scene where a character is pushed off a balcony into the lane below. At this stage it’s not known how prominently Glasgow would be featured – Germany is the main production location for the movie – but the news will be sure to set more tongues wagging over possible star appearances in the city. Oscar-winning actor Hanks, Halle Berry, Susan Sarandon, Hugo Weaving, Ben Whishaw and Jim Broadbent are among those confirmed for the movie which reportedly has a $150m budget, with Natalie Portman and Sir Ian McKellen also rumoured. The film is being directed by Tom Twyker (Run Lola Run and Perfume: The Story of a Murderer) alongside Andy Wachowski and Lana Wachowski, who created The Matrix trilogy. The story takes place across thousands of years and features six main characters and, according to Tykwer, spans genres including "Melvillean high-seas drama to California noir and dystopian fantasy".
