Good news, movie fans. MarketSaw is reporting some total kick ass news. It appears that New Line and Peter Jackson have buried the hatchet, or at least covered it up with the appropriate amount of dollar bills as MarketSaw believes its only a matter of days before Peter Jackson is announced as the director for 2 Hobbit films. These films will serve as prequels to The Lord of the Rings trilogy. This on its own is great to hear, but wait till you get a load of this: They will be in 3D.

Yes, you heard me. Shine up your glasses and prepare to nerd out as hobbits, wizards, and dragons erupt from the glorious screen in captivating 3D. Now, the announcement that Peter Jackson is on to direct has been reported by two insiders, and it seemed likely, so we can bank that in the true column.

The 3D claim is made by only one reliable source, so that could fade away or end up not being true. How about making some noise below to pressure New Line into releasing it in 3D! 3D is really an awesome treat in the theater, providing you with jittery jumps and awesome penetrating shots of objects leaving the screen. My personal favorite aspect of 3D is the depth of the image in regular medium shots. Looks really fantastic to me. I’m glad to see some live action films being lined up for 3D as I think they benefit far more than computer animated fare.

The site also goes on to say that Hugo Weaving, Ian McKellan, and Andy Serkis are likely to return. On top of that, apparently Jackson would like to convert the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy into a 3D epic, which is awesome - though I feel bad for the post people who have to turn that 12 hour monster into a 12hour 3D monster. Does that make it 36D? Never mind.

The Hobbit follows the early adventures of Bilbo Baggins who journeys with the wizard Gandalf and a pack of dwarves on a quest to reclaim a treasure. On the midst, they must battle trolls, goblins, Wargs, a huge dragon named Smaug and Bilbo must match wits against the familiar foe - Gollum.
