SUPER fan Jeffrey Cryer drove all the way from his Welsh home to Lacock in a bid to catch a glimpse of his idol Sir Anthony Hopkins.

Mr Cryer, 41, a steel worker from Penarth has been a lifelong fan of the actor and has followed him all over the country to see him in action.

Last Thursday, Mr Cryer and his wife Lesley, 45, drove the 140-mile round trip to see Sir Anthony who was due to be filming his latest blockbuster The Wolfman in the village.

Unfortunately, due to the high winds and rain, the filming was postponed until next month, but Mr Cryer remained positive.

He said: "I am a bit disappointed but I will do it all over again in April just to see the great man in action.

"I have been a huge fan for all my life and have travelled around to see him performing whenever I can.

"He was filming in Wales last month and it was like a dream come true - he was right on my doorstep.

"I think he is an amazing actor and a brilliant man who takes time to talk to his fans.

"Our two children think we are a little mad, but me and the wife have such a passion for this.

"Some people admire pop stars or politicians but for me it is Anthony Hopkins."

The couple set out from their home in the early hours of the morning and as soon as they arrived in Lacock they began hunting for the film set.

Mr Cryer said that he was mostly upset for his wife, who suffers from Colitis and finds it difficult travelling over long distances.

Sir Anthony was due to be shooting scenes in the Tithe Barn and around the High Street for the remake of the 1941 horror film.

The period drama, set between 1890 and 1905, follows the life of Laurence Talbot, a successful actor who returns to his ancestral home to find his missing brother.

On his return he gets bitten by a werewolf and turns into one of the beasts.

Film bosses, from Universal Pictures, have told Lacock residents that they will receive £300 for each house affected by the filming.

A spokesman from Universal said: "Unfortunately the filming had to be postponed but we will hopefully return in early April to start the one day shoot."

The Wolfman will also star Benicio Del Toro, Emily Blunt and Hugo Weaving.
