WHEN Tom Russell, a 10-year-old student from Glen Osmond Primary School, was cast opposite Matrix star Hugo Weaving in The Last Ride, he had just one question: Who's Hugo Weaving?
"I didn't even know who Hugo Weaving was before this film," explained
the young actor yesterday in Sydney, where he is busy rehearsing for
the new SA movie.
"But now I've seen Priscilla Queen of the Desert and a bit of The Matrix." Tom said Weaving, who he met for the first time on Tuesday, was "really nice". "His talking voice is different to his acting voice – which is really low," he pointed out. The $4 million road movie begins filming in the Flinders Ranges on July 21. Weaving plays a violent father on the run from the law with his young son, Chook, played by Tom. The movie is directed by one of Australia's hottest young talents, the winner of the short film Palm D'Or at the 2003 Cannes Film Festival, Glendyn Ivin.
