Paul Kelly is no spring chicken either, but the rock legend will
perform at the Wharf Restaurant after a performance of the Sydney
Theatre Company play Riflemind on October 13. Directed by Oscar winner
Philip Seymour Hoffman, Riflemind takes place over a weekend when a
group of ageing rockers gather to relive past glories and plan a
comeback tour.
Hugo Weaving plays the band's frontman John, but he says there are no similarities between his egocentric character and Kelly: "I think he's fantastic. He's someone who is very much moving forward." Kelly has won over a new generation, too. Weaving says his 14-year-old daughter Holly raved about Kelly after seeing him perform at the Live Earth concert in July.
