A story about the struggle for love in a loveless future, how the things we do are the things we become and if there’s any way back?
Los Angeles, CA – April 6, 2019 – After slating a production date of Feb. 25th, Writer-Director, Ivan Sen’s ‘LOVELAND’ has wrapped up the film’s Hong Kong leg.
ROCK SALT RELEASING can exclusively announce that production has wrapped up for the Hong Kong leg of Writer-Director, Ivan Sen’s (Toomelah, Mystery Road, Goldstone, Beneath Clouds) romantic sci-fi, LOVELAND. The production will now head to Brisbane and Gold Coast, Australia for studio work.
As advance work from Hong Kong, Sen has delivered breathtakingly beautiful footage from the gritty bustling streets of Mong Kok in Kowloon. Set in the futuristic neon nights, Sen’s characters are haunted by the city. LOVELAND also shot in Macau, again capturing the alluring neon nightlight of the city. According to Producers David Jowsey and Greer Simpkin of BUNYA Productions, “This is some of the best material we have ever seen from Ivan Sen; the performances, the vision and the locations are spectacular. We are all very excited at BUNYA Productions about LOVELAND.”
Production worked closely with Hong Kong fixer and production company, Salon, whose previous expertise of shooting there assisted the production immensely. Additionally, the cast and crew of LOVELAND worked with Hong Kong casting and stunt director, “Big” Mike Leeder, for local casting of well-known Hong Kong actors, including Michael Chan (Covert Operation) and Andrew Ng (Ghost in the Shell, Pounds of Flesh, Man With the Iron Fist).
Set in the neon twilight of a futuristic Chinese influenced mega-city, LOVELAND showcases the future city to be a loveless world, on the cusp of both immortality and extinction. The romantic sci-fi unites two lonely souls, Jack, a hardened assassin, and April, a nightclub singer. Together, they search for what it once was to be human, until it confronts them, revealing the true mystery of their existence. LOVELAND features the star-studded talent of Hugo Weaving (Lord of the Rings, V for Vendetta, The Matrix), Ryan Kwanten (True Blood, Legend of the Guardians) and Jillian Nguyen (The True History of the Kelly Gang, currently in post-production alongside Nicholas Hoult, Charlie Hunnman and Russell Crow).
The US-Australian romantic sci-fi has secured funding from Screen Australia, The Queensland Government and the MAESTRO Productions with Executive Producers Mevlüt “Hilmi” Cinar and Tarik Coskun.
TriCoast Worldwide Co-CEO, Marcy Levitas Hamilton, and Daisy Hamilton of ROCK SALT RELEASING are offering the film for Pre-sales.
