The ABC’s live Q&A current affairs discussion program is hosting a special edition about queer issues next week – with the long-standing opponent of LGBTI equality Fred Nile joining the panel to fire up the debate.
The episode will screen live on ABC1 on Thursday 18 June, just after a special documentary about iconic Australian movie Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, called Between a Frock and a Hard Place.
“The documentary highlights the extraordinary change in social attitudes and laws around homosexuality, masculinity and gender over the last 40 years, and provides a fresh perspective on current debates around marriage equality and transgender,” says the ABC.
Following the documentary will be the special Q&GAY discussion, with a panel including gay rights activist and author Dennis Altman, flamboyant cabaret star Paul Capsis, Christian Democrat MP Fred Nile, plus two female panellists still to be confirmed.
Q&GAY will be filmed and broadcast live from the ABC Sydney studios in central Sydney. Audience members will watch the documentary and participate in the live Q&A that follows. The questions will be up to you!
If you’re keen to join the live studio audience, please register your details here. Mention Same Same in the ‘How did you hear about us?’ section, and tell them a little about yourself.
Next Thursday’s special episode will be the first time there’s been a special LGBTI edition of Q&A. An episode last July focussed on HIV, in conjunction with the AIDS 2015 Conference which was happening in Melbourne at the time. See the discussion below.
