A movie on the Irish Famine begins shooting today.
It features an international cast, including The Matrix and Lord of the Rings star, Hugo Weaving, as well as Vikings actor Moe Dunford.
Shooting is taking place in Wicklow and Connemara from November 28 until December 22 and January 6 until 28.
The movie, directed by Lance Daly (Kisses), secured €500,000 in funding from the Council of Europe’s Eurimages’ fund and €750,000 from the Irish Film Bord.
It’s being billed as a western and is based on PJ Dillion and Pierce Ryan’s award-winning short An Ranger.
The project is produced by Ireland’s Fastnet Films and Luxembourg-based Samsa Films.
A casting call was sent out last week for “Irish men and women with gaunt faces” to play famine victims.
