Heather Mitchell, Helen Dallimore, Blazey Best and Joe Klocek were among the famous faces to watch Helen Thomson and Caroline Brazier deliver powerhouse performances at the opening of Sydney Theatre Company’s Mary Stuart last Saturday.
After two hours locked in the theatre for the gripping show, adapted by local writing legend Kate Mulvany, the audience were ravenous and thirsty when they escaped into the foyer of the Roslyn Packer Theatre in Walsh Bay.
While the gigantic cheese table proved a hit, lukewarm scallops on a bed of beetroot puree left a bad taste in the mouth of some guests. Fortunately, there was an abundance of wine to wash it all away. Among the crowd was Lord of the Rings and The Matrix star Hugo Weaving who opted for a Canadian tuxedo for opening night – a denim shirt tucked into his jeans, finished off with Birkenstocks. A look only Hugo Weaving could pull off.
