Australian dramas can be utterly captivating. The desert landscape of the Outback that burns with passion, heat and sand swept nightmares. Films such as Mad Max, Animal Kingdom and Priscilla: Queen of the Desert showcase a wide variety of cinematic greatness that make Australia an important player in films. Now it’s the turn of Strangerland to do the same job.
The drama revolves around Catherine and Matthew Parker whose children vanish in the Outback during a dust storm. As they confront the disappearance, tensions start to come to a head as mysterious clue and phones calls plague Catherine. Starring Nicole Kidman, Joseph Fiennes and Hugo Weaving, this is a stunning collective of brilliance.
After screening at Sundance, we’ve finally got a tantalising new trailer and let’s just say that it feels as though Nicole Kidman has come home again with her acting (you know, after Grace of Monaco). The evocative, stirring and somewhat disturbing haze of a film looks to be as gripping as the most excellent cinema that has come from Down Under.
