PLAUDITS keep rolling in for Sydney Theatre Company’s acclaimed production of Uncle Vanya, with the play picking up two high-profile US theatre awards this week.
At a ceremony in Washington, Cate Blanchett won the Helen Hayes Award for outstanding lead actress in a non-resident production, while Hugo Weaving was awarded outstanding supporting performer in a non-resident production.
Neither was on hand to accept the awards, however, as Blanchett is performing in the STC’s Gross Und Klein
in London and Weaving is strutting the boards in STC’s production of Les Liaisons Dangereuses in Sydney.
The production will next be seen in New York in July.
