It all started with a tweet by actress Caroline Goodall saying she was off to Australia for Jocelyn Moorhouse’s The Dressmaker starring Kate Winslet, Judy Davis, Liam Hemsowrth, Kerry Fox and…Hugo! I did some digging and the official site doesn’t mention Hugo yet, but it’s also only listing the three main characters at the moment (Winslet, Davis & Hemsworth); worldwide sales agent Embankment Films however has a longer cast list on their website, which includes Hugo as Sergeant Farrat, and also included Hugo’s name on their TIFF 2014 flyers .
Set in the 1950’s, The Dressmaker is a bitter sweet comedy about a glamorous young woman who returns, after many years in Europe, to her small home town in rural Australia in order to right some wrongs from the past. When Tilly (played by Kate Winslet) comes home, she not only reconciles with her ailing mother Molly (played by Judy Davis) but, with her sewing machine, and haute couture style, she transforms the women of the town in such a way that she gets sweet revenge on those who did her wrong. She also falls unexpectedly in love, which leads to her greatest loss and her most destructive deed.
The Dressmaker will be released in Australian cinemas on October 1st 2015 by Universal Pictures International (UPI); it is is being sold worldwide by U.K. based sales agent Embankment Films and co-represented in the US with CAA.
According to Film Victoria, filming starts on October 17 and wraps on December 12.
