How come you don’t have a role in Baz Luhrmann’s Australia?
I actually wasn’t interested. Can I say that? I’m interested to see it but it’s not the sort of thing that I want to get involved in, to be honest – a big lavish epic romantic [film], banging on the drums. But, having said that, I think it’s fantastic that that scope of film is being made here.
You were Elrond in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Has Guillermo del Toro offered you a role in the Hobbit movies? W
e’ll see. It would be great to work with him. I think he’s perfect for directing The Hobbit, absolutely perfect. He’s a fantastically imaginative creative artist.
Any plans to work with the Wachowski brothers (Matrix) again?
I saw them recently in London and they seem to have fallen in love with Berlin. They’re doing their third film there. I’m very fond of both of them so who knows? I suspect that, in the future, there might be something that we’d work on together.
