HAVING just hooked himself another villainous film role, acclaimed Aussie actor Hugo Weaving clearly has bucks to burn.
Casually sipping a 2005 cab sav merlot at the Art and Music charity auction on Saturday, the Wolfman star had the winning bid of $25,000 (the price of a Holden Barina, drive away) for a wooden Robert Klippel sculpture (the size of the beep beep’s gear box).
Weaving – who confirmed he has accepted the part of the Red Skull in comic book blockbuster Captain America: The First Avenger, which starts filming in London in five weeks – was seated at the same table as Bryan Brown and Rachel Ward at the Art Gallery of NSW dinner.
Beautiful Kate director Ward looked like she sashayed off the set of Sex And The City 2 with her curly-toed sandals, bought recently in India "of course".
On the entertainment bill was Home And Away hippie/muso Josh Quong Tart, whose performance was more soliloquy than song, with one guest commenting that he must have been "Eurovision-inspired".
