Australian actor Hugo Weaving has joined the cast of The Wolfman, but he isn’t going to go all fangy on us.
Editorial Review
Holy guacamole. With Cate Blanchett flying the Australian flag solo in the major Oscar categories this week – ably assisted in the Best Doco category by previously unknown producer Eva Orner – it seems that US film studios are doing their bit to get more of our talent in front of the camera. Having told you that David Wenham has joined Michael Mann’s Public Enemies (with Johnny Depp and Christian Bale), we can bring some other great news about another excellent Australian actor.
Hmm, the attached picture may make him look like he’s planning on taking Benicio Del Toro’s role, but don’t be fooled: Hugo Weaving has joined the cast of The Wolfman, but he isn’t going to go all fangy on us.
Weaving has, in fact, joined the film as Detective Aberline, who we’re going to go ahead and guess is all about hunting down the human renegades in his computer system – sorry, that should read "wolf monster terrorising his turf". Benicio Del Toro is, of course, Mr Hirsute himself in the film, with Anthony Hopkins as his dad and Emily Blunt as his love interest.
Filming is (finally) due to start in London next month, from a script by Andrew Kevin Walker.
